Hey all,
This is my first time writing a journal in the 4+ years i have been a member of DA, so please bare with me. First thing's first, I'm 27yrs old, married with 2 little boys, A 2 yr old a 3 month old. I live in PA, moving to Pittsburgh next month to attend the Art Institute of Pitts, for a Media Arts and Animation degree.
I was born in Dominican Republic to a family of artists, My dad loved sketching, his brother is a painter, one of his sisters is an architect. On my mother's side, my mom paints t-shirts, her sis was designer, and my gram ma used to sculpt and paint porcelain figurines, so it was impossible for my brothers and i not to grow up with out having some type of love for art in general.
I like a lot of us here, when i was a little i watched lots of cartoons like he-man, thurdercats, voltron ect...and eventually started to try an draw them. As soon as i knew how to hold and use a pencil, that was it. I used to Doodle everywhere and whenever i could. My uncle guided in many ways, he used to let me sit by him while he made his own comics on a stack of printing paper, he would buy me a comic once in a while when he could find one, and i would trace lines.
I loved drawing more than anything but not until 96 when i came to the states did i really get into it.
Coming here opened a lot of opportunities that i had yet to realize i had. Since in D.R. comic books aren't so common as cartoons are i never really had the chance to learn about the great artists in the industry. I started buying lots of them, 6-10 ever week. In high school i almost failed all other classes but art...go figure. Throughout all my 4yrs of high school i made money by sketching and drawing things for people. Sometimes it was an art project for a fellow student, sometimes a cover for the school newspaper, others were just random commissions of some DBZ character or pokemon, haha good 'ol days.
Even one of the security guards at school, started paying me to design car graphics. It was so cool seen the stuff go from my humble paper and color pencils to kick ass car graphics on the hood or the side. On 2002 i moved to Hawaii due to joining the military, once again my drawing fallowed me. I was designated to design my division flag. Paint some stuff on my RDC's Desk and even paint a few Submarine Torpedoes outside of our building. While living in HI, i also did a few murals, Signs for stores, few t-shirts, and Motorcycle work.
All in all i have done a lot of things related to drawing and painting, in my own time i've put some of those personal drawing on here mostly based on video games, another my other passion besides drawing. Not until recently did i have the opportunity however to finally get into a good art school, better late than never is what some believe. Although it might be a bit late compared to some of the amazing artists here, a lot of them half my age. I believe there is still a spot left for me in the world of animation, comics, game art.
As a fellow Deviant i look forward to finally getting to know those other great artists that by some miracle they have decided to "watch" or "fave" me, and i them, i welcome constructive criticism, guidance from the experts and mostly just fun in doing what we all love here, creating art, in which ever form it may be.
